MISSION
To bring all Keralites residing in the Western suburbs of Melbourne to a common platform to preserve and promote rich values and traditions of God’s Own Country.
To plan and organize cultural events and recreational activities aimed at improving cultural, educational and social values among the Keralite community and demonstrate their talents to the member community and to the public.
To cultivate love, cooperation, family values, and the greatness of union among its member community.
To impart the richness of Malayalam language, art forms and social heritage to the Australian born children of Keralite descent.
HISTORY
Utsav Malayalee Samaj was established in June 2008 by a group of families in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne to enable the Keralite migrants who were settled in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, to come together and to nurture the Keralite culture by the Keralite born Australians, and to transmit this culture in its authentic form to the new generation of ‘Australian born and brought up’ children. The Samaj commenced its activities initially by celebrating the popular festivals such as Onam, Christmas, New Year, Easter, and Vishu in the Kerala style. The aim of the Samaj is to commemorate the traditional practices and transmit them to the next generation Australia born children of Keralite descent. The Samaj anticipates that it will evolve into an organisation that will offer a forum for its members to build up resilience and confidence and will act as a platform for the Keralite community to make valuable contributions to the vibrant Australian multiculturalism. The Samaj hopes to explore and expand its activities and to seize all opportunities that situations will present, in a way that will support its mission. The Samaj will offer a forum for talent search, social and emotional support, socialisation, job search, small business development, food, fitness and fun. The Samaj will support its members to be responsible Australians who will bring pride to the Keralite culture and to successfully integrate to the Australian culture.
